Studio Management Intern

Studio Management internship available.

We’re looking for a talented (paid!) intern to join the Macbeth team in Spring 2019.

Internships start at $10–$12/hr and require a commitment of 12–16 weeks of part-time work (20+ hrs/week) between February and May 2019. We currently have one studio management internship available—there are no photo/video/creative openings at this time.

Are you a good fit?

Regardless of the internship you’re applying for, we value the following attributes in every member of our team:

  • You’re a self-starter with a strong sense of ownership. Macbeth is a team of people who love working together and collaborating, but who don’t need to report in every hour. You’ll be given guidelines on what needs to be done and the freedom to accomplish it in your own way.

  • You are a perfectionist. Ok, we know that perfect is the enemy of the good. But you're the kind of person who doesn't settle for "good enough," and will take the extra time to make whatever you're working on just a little bit better.

  • You are a great communicator. When a client has a request, it's critical that they receive a timely, courteous, complete and well-thought-out response.  They are the reason we exist, and they get top priority always. Typos are very much frowned upon, and spelling a client's name wrong is punishable by death.

  • You can see the future. Anticipating problems before they occur, visualizing a location shoot and packing all the necessary gear, thinking through tomorrow's projects and planning accordingly... we need you to have the answer before we know what question we're going to ask.

  • You have a great sense of humor. Our studio is schizophrenic... half the time being weird and laughing about internet memes, and then we're panicking with our hair on fire. If you can't laugh, you'll go insane.

  • You play well with creative people. Even if you don't think of yourself as all that creative, you understand how to work with people who are.

  • You don’t mind helping to make new systems if our current ones don’t work. We’re good at a lot of things, but we have plenty room for improvement. We appreciate people who can see problems, suggest solutions, bring experience from previous positions, and help make things run smoother in our studio every day.

  • You love trying new things. Sometimes we spend an entire day in the studio watching tutorials on YouTube and trying a new lighting technique. You get excited about trying new stuff, and like every day to be different.

  • You want to make the world a better place. An inordinate amount of our time is spent trying to do good things for good people. We want to work with people who give back, who care deeply, who want to leave things a better than they found them. And who clean up after themselves.

STUDIO MANAGEMENT INTERNSHIP:

As studio management intern, you'll be the voice of our studio—responding to emails, taking calls, scheduling shoots, and keeping us creative folk on track. We're a small studio, so you'll be working closely with photographers and videographers, and your days will be constantly changing from one hour to the next.

One thing to note: although this is a creative environment, we're looking for an organized, left-brained, numbers person for this role. If you're interested in the behind-the-scenes management of a creative studio, this is a great entry level opportunity. If you're more interested in shooting, editing, or other creative tasks, keep an eye out for future internships and please don't apply for this one.

  • Responding to email inquiries. You’ll be fielding questions, explaining our rates and processes, putting together quotes, and setting up shoots.

  • Taking phone calls. At first, you might just be taking messages and directing people to our website for rates and samples. Eventually, you may be handling client calls and coordinating shoots. You don't mind talking to people, and in fact you actually kind of like it.

  • Shoot coordination and production. You’ll be learning how to produce shoots from start to finish—that includes chatting/meeting with clients, coordinating schedules, taking deposits, making sure everyone involved is in the right place at the right time, and invoicing for jobs.

Tell us why you belong with us.

This is a paid 3-4 month internship with the potential to become a part-time or full-time job if you’re a great fit for Macbeth Studio.

To apply, send an email to info@macbethstudio.com explaining:

  • Why you belong at Macbeth Studio

  • What it is about Macbeth that you particularly like

  • What work and other experiences you’ve learned from
(Include whatever's relevant, even if it's not in our industry.)

  • Why we should hire you over everyone else
(We get a lot of requests—what makes you special?)

  • How you will make the world a better place
(Tell us a little about your passion in giving back.)

  • What days and hours you’re available every week
(Having at least 20 hours that you're consistently available Mon–Fri is best, but if you have another plan, we're listening.)

  • Let us know your longer term goals (Are you hoping that this will turn into a full time job by summer? Are you just looking for a short internship before finishing school or moving? All answers are ok, but we'd love to know what you'd like to do after the 3-4 months.)

  • Resume not necessary (We care a lot more about reading what you write.)

  • Don't bore us (We want to read interesting, clever responses that showcase your personality.)

  • Don't wait too long The deadline is 5 p.m. on Monday, February 11th, 2019.
