Last Night's Magic

"The bottom line for us is: What are we doing to make the world better?" That is what Jim said to me on my first day at Macbeth. On my second day, I was invited to volunteer to improve the lives of Orlando's homeless people, of which there are over 10,000.

Last night, Magic fans were treated to a victory against the Denver Nuggets with a final score of 116 to 110. Go team! But sports fans aren't the only Orlandoans with something to celebrate today. FanDuel, a web-based fantasy sports game, joined forces with the nonprofit organization Rethink Homelessness to raise money and awareness for one great cause: eradicating homelessness in Central Florida. During last night's game, for any social media post, reply, or share containing the hashtag "#RethinkHomelessness," FanDuel donated $1.00 to help win the fight against homelessness.

What does this have to do with Macbeth? Well, you don't think we would miss an opportunity to be involved in improving our awesome community, do you? Macbeth volunteers raised awareness by providing a unique photo booth with one of Hillery's famous hand-made backdrops. Hot dogs, beer and election banter were plentiful, and, at least for the span of one night, we knew how to answer Jim's question.

FanDuel raised over $5,000, and it is my firm belief that if the life of even one homeless person is improved, if even one ounce of human suffering is alleviated, the world is better.
